A Twist of Lennon with a Slice of John on the Side

I remember the first time I heard “I am the Walrus, I mean really heard it. Something inside of me just clicked. I was impressed more by what the song didn’t say and how it went about saying what it didn’t say than what it actually said.

I was inspired that day by the words of Mr. Lennon and I continue to be.

Beyond writing songs with beautiful and eloquent melodies, John had a lot to say and he never minced words. He was a bit of a rebel who suffered from low self-esteem. He was unconventional and opinionated. He wasn’t  perfect nor would he want to be.

He was truly an original and although he was with us for such a short time, he added so much to the world while he was here.

Today, October 9th would have been his 72nd birthday.

There will never be another John Lennon.

  4. What a lovely way to honor John’s memory and all he brought to our lives. I don’t approve of defacing public property with graffiti, but I had to smile when I saw “All you need is love…” inked on the bathroom stall door in the Music building at my community college. His ideas and art still influence the budding younger generation.

    1. Hi Janet, That is so true about him. My teenagers love his music too. He and The Beatles have really bridged the generations. Quality lives on…and an essentail and beautiful message does too. Some graffiti can be nice.

  7. Life is beautiful, not because artists paint it so but because that’s the way it is. Artists just reflect it to us. The most beautiful scenes; whether painted with words, colours or sweet sounds are simply a reflection of the best that we have ever experienced. Some people are exceptional as making us notice life’s beauty and that’s why they mean so much to us! Lovely share about John Lennon. 🙂

  8. He lives on… and as time goes by I think I value what he contributed to the world even more. He had a timeless message. He’d be sad if he could see what’s gone on in the world in the last 30 years, don’t you think? (And he was a Libra – didn’t know that! 😉 )

  9. What a great tribute to an amazing poet, songwriter, and man. One of the first non-kid songs my boys ever really liked to the point where they would randomly sing it was “Yellow Submarine”. 🙂
